Lynk & Co Cyan Racing has claimed the lead of the TCR World Tour drivers’ and teams’ standings following a successful race weekend in Hungary where Yann Ehrlacher and Thed Björk claimed a win apiece.
Two-time world champion Yann Ehrlacher started the weekend by qualifying on pole position, keeping the lead throughout the first race to claim his second victory of the season, and moved into the points lead.
“Two wins and a podium from the first part of the season is something we can be quite pleased about. It hasn’t been easy, even if it might have looked like it. I’m happy with the points that we have scored this weekend and leading the championship at mid-point is always nice,” said Yann Ehrlacher.
Thed Björk made the most of his front-row grid position for the second race, rocketing into the lead before the first corner to claim his first victory since 2020.
“This win was just unbelievable; this is what we are fighting for! The team did an amazing job this weekend and delivered a great race car, a huge thanks to them. I couldn’t have gotten a better end to the European part of the season,” said Thed Björk.
Team-mates Ma Qing Hua and Santiago Urrutia fought hard throughout the two races at the Hungaroring, scoring a top five and top ten finish respectively.
“I had some issues this weekend, but we have collected a lot of good data and we have a better view of how to move forward. Fourth in the first race was okay and I had to fight back hard in the final race after dropping to last place in the start. I climbed back to eighth place with a lot of good overtakes. Now I’m looking forward to the next races in South America,” said Ma Qing Hua.
“This wasn't the race weekend or first part of the season I was hoping for. But we are leading the teams’ and drivers’ championship, that's pretty good. My focus is now on the next race in Uruguay, my home race, and I’m really looking forward to that,” said Santiago Urrutia.
Yann Ehrlacher heads the drivers’ standings, 16 points ahead of Norbert Michelisz while Thed Björk is sixth, 50 points adrift.
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing heads the team championship, 63 points ahead of BRC Hyundai and 95 points ahead of Audi Sport Comtoyou.
The next TCR World Tour race takes place at Autódromo Victor Borrat Fabini, El Pinar in Uruguay on August 18-20.
