Lynk & Co Cyan Racing returns Uruguay and the home race of Santiago Urrutia

2024-07-31

Lynk & Co Cyan Racing and the KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour returns to Uruguay this weekend, racing at El Pinar - the home circuit of Santiago Urrutia.

Last year saw Lynk & Co 03 TCR driver Santiago Urrutia claiming pole, fastest lap, victory and was handed the trophy by the president of Uruguay.

"The feeling is really good to come back home! Last year was a great race for us and a really special feeling to win in Uruguay. I will carry weight this weekend, so let’s see how we adapt our strategy to that. But the main goal is of course to score good points for the team," said Santiago Urrutia.

Thed Björk is the best placed Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver after a solid run of races, currently holding third place, 37 points from leading driver Norbert Michelisz.

"I’ve found a great feeling in the car for the past couple of races and if we can keep that up, the remaining race weekends should be great fun. We were strong in Uruguay last year, but the championship is really tough this year and everyone is working really hard together to keep fighting at the top," said Thed Björk.

Yann Ehrlacher headed to the previous race in Brazil holding second place overall, but dropped to fourth after an incident in the second race.

"I lost some points in Brazil, but that does not change much in the approach for the remaining part of the championship. We are going flat out and as usual try to maximise our points. I will have less weight in the car at El Pinar compared to Interlagos and the track suits the car well, so I’m looking forward to the weekend," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Ma Qing Hua claimed his first win for Cyan Racing in Uruguay last year and is looking for more podium finishes this weekend.

"I have a lot of great memories from El Pinar, especially as I claimed my first win for Cyan Racing here. The main goal is to maintain our lead in the team championship and as we now enter the final half of the season, it’s more important than ever to score strongly and consistently," said Ma Qing Hua.

The Uruguayan race weekend starts with practice and qualifying on Saturday, followed by two races on Sunday - both broadcast LIVE via the TCR TV streaming platform.
