Thed Björk wins in Macau to secure Team World Title with 100th podium

2024-11-16

Thed Björk won the first FIA TCR World Tour race of the weekend on the legendary streets of Macau to secure the 2024 Team World Title with the 100th podium of the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing programme since 2019.

The Lynk & Co 03 TCR driver started from pole and held the lead from lights to flag despite a red flag and restart of the race.

"Such a fantastic feeling to claim my first Macau win, the team world title and our 100th podium! I just decided that it was my victory today, it was my track and my race. The car was perfect and the team gave me great support, big thanks to everyone. I look forward to the second race tomorrow which is going to be really challenging, but that's what we are here for," said Thed Björk.

The victory marks the 100th podium finish since the start of the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing programme in 2019 and the tenth touring car World Title of Cyan Racing since 2017.

"Thed and the team performed extremely well in the first race of the season finale and we are obviously delighted to claim our tenth World Title in global touring car racing in just seven years. But we are not resting, we are fully focused on the drivers' title fight in the final race tomorrow," said Fredrik Wahlén, CEO and Team Manager of Cyan Racing.

"This victory and team world title is an astounding achievement by Lynk & Co Cyan Racing, further cementing them as one of the all-time great world touring car teams. The team behind the design and construction of the Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car and Geely Group Motorsport wishes to extend our sincerest congratulations and we are now looking forward to a thrilling battle for the drivers' title tomorrow," said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Geely Group Motorsport International.

Yann Ehrlacher finished fourth in the first race of the weekend to secure further vital points for the teams' world title.

With the FIA TCR World Tour teams' title in the hands of Cyan Racing, the drivers' title fight is still very much alive for the final race of the season on Sunday.

Thed Björk's victory has brought him to just five points from championship leader Norbert Michelisz with 30 points still available.

Thed Björk will however start tenth on the reversed grid for Race 2 while main title rival Norbert Michelisz will start seventh.

The final FIA TCR World Tour race of 2024 starts at 11:00 local time/04:00 CET on Sunday and is broadcast LIVE via TCR TV and Macau GP TV.
