Thed Björk claims third in tough Mid-Ohio qualifying for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing

2024-06-07

Thed Björk was fastest of the Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers with third place in a tough KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour qualifying session at Mid-Ohio in the USA.

The Swede set a lap time of 1:27.929 and was 0.872 seconds from pole sitter and Hyundai rival Mikel Azcona.

"I wasn't really happy with the balance of the car, but I tried my best and third is an okay position. I obviously wanted to beat the top two, so it's been a tough day. But we will try to fight back in the races tomorrow," said Thed Björk.

Team-mate Ma Qing Hua was close behind in fourth place, just 0.121 seconds adrift.

Santiago Urrutia and Yann Ehrlacher qualified seventh and eighth, meaning third and fourth on the grid for the reversed-grid second race, as the two carried 40 and 30 kilos of compensation weight respectively.

The first race of the weekend will however see them both start from the back of the grid due to an engine change grid penalty following damage sustained in the second race on the streets of Marrakech.

Race 1 at Mid-Ohio starts at 08:30 local time/14:30 CEST, with the second race starting at 17:45/23:45.
