Lynk & Co Cyan Racing climbs to points lead with triple podium in Brazil

2024-07-21

Three podium finishes from the two KUMHO FIA TCR World Tour races at Formula 1 circuit Interlagos in Brazil has seen Lynk & Co Cyan Racing climbing to the team championship points lead.

The first race of the weekend had Santiago Urrutia securing a strong second place finish, having started from pole position.

“The goal for the first race was obviously a win, but second place is good points for the championship. There was a bit of confusion at the start with the five-second board and start lights compared to what was said during the drivers briefing. But we have come away from the weekend at Interlagos with a good points haul and now we focus on the next race in my home country Uruguay,” said Santiago Urrutia.

The second race saw Ma Qing Hua fighting hard for the lead with points leader Norbert Michelisz, with Thed Björk taking over the chase at the end of the race to secure a solid double podium finish together with his Chinese team-mate.

The Swede climbed to third place in the drivers' championship, 36 points from Norbert Michelisz.

“I came into this weekend with a lot of weight in the car and to come away with a podium and fifth place finish feels great, so a big thanks to the team. Let’s keep this momentum heading into the second season half,” said Thed Björk.

“It has been a great weekend for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing with three podiums and the team points lead. The second race was eventful and it was a great feeling to stand on the podium together with Thed,” said Ma Qing Hua.

Yann Ehrlacher had a tough Brazilian race weekend, finishing a respectable fourth in the first race while the second race ended early as he was involved in an incident on the first lap which dropped him down the order following a pit stop for repairs.

The Frenchman is still in the title fight, currently holding fourth place in the drivers’ championship, 40 points from leading driver Norbert Michelisz.

“It was obviously not the weekend I hoped for. But the team has scored strong points and the drivers’ championship fight is far from over. The pace is there despite carrying a lot of weight and we will bounce back in the next race at El Pinar,” said Yann Ehrlacher.

The three podium finishes from the weekend at Interlagos has seen Lynk & Co Cyan Racing emerge as the team championship leaders, heading BRC Hyundai by 19 points.

The next FIA TCR World Tour race will be held at El Pinar in Uruguay, the home circuit of Santiago Urrutia, August 3-4.
